tracking the extreme weather neighborhood by neighborhood. welcome back to nbc 10 news today. i am rosemary connors. it's just before 5:30 on this saturday. meteorologist, brittney shipp has the forecast. brittney explain why it's not going to be as bad as yesterday? >> we are not going to see temperatures quite as hot as what we saw yesterday. yesterday we tied the record at 95 degrees and we had high humidity levels that made it feel like 100 degrees. as we head through the afternoon today, temperatures will climb to 91 and our average for this time of year 82. wind direction will shift a bit, so we will get drier air move in, and that will help to decrease humidity so that will be a little more comfortable and it's still very warm for this time of year. temperatures at 78 degrees in philadelphia with a few clouds. humidity at 64 degrees. feels like temperature at 80 degrees. and your current temperatures if you are heading out the door early for a jog this morning, 75

chance of storms today but the heat is still sticking around and it's going to be warm for the rowers on the schuylkill river. jesse gary is live along the drive. >> reporter: starting at 6:00 this morning and lasting until 6:00 this evening, kelly drive will be closed. it starts at the bridge that you see behind me. drivers will be forced to detour there, and then they are going to move around into the park and pick up at fountain drive and follow it back all the way around to kelly drive on the other side of the closure, all to accommodate the schuylkill navy regatta, and while that happens and the water seems like a great place to be a lot of people don't have any chance or any way to stay out of the heat and we ran into construction workers yesterday and this morning that have to work out in the heat and we talked to a temple university hospital er

doctor that says these conditions can cause people to suffer from heat exhaustion. what is that? you get tired and cramps and nauseous, and when you feel those signs coming on stop whatever you are doing, move into a cool place and drink fluids, not alcohol-based drinks, and room temperature water is the best thing to rehydrate you to stamp out the symptoms of heat exhausten, and if you don't it could progress to a heat stroke and your internal organs will start to shut down. another hot day, and we will find some people that try to get out and exercise before it gets too hot. jesse gary nbc 10 news. breaking news from overnight. a man shot an intruder inside his house in philadelphia. nbc 10 was on the scene in b

street where the homeowner was awakened by a 19-year-old man around 3:30 this morning. the man shot the man in the stomach, and police tell us there was no sign of forced entry at the house. go to the website, nbc10.com for more updates. new from overnight, a man says he was stabbed in the arm while trying to break up a fight at a bar in philadelphia over brook neighborhood. police responded to the scene at over brook avenue. so far no arrests in this case. firefighters return to the scene of a deadly fire in bus annual ton yesterday. investigators are still trying to figure out what started the fire in a house on avon street in philadelphia. a woman died and her mother has critical injuries, and her father got out okay. firefighters tell us they found

one smoke detector in the home but it was not working. today funeral services will be held in south philadelphia for a contestant of "the voice" that died last week. he was found dead of an aupparent suicide. officials have not ruled the exact cause of death. he was a performer on season 8 of nbc's "the voice," but left the show telling producers he was dealing with substance abuse. a federal judge agreed to delay efforts by three massachusetts women to unseal a pennsylvania sexual case that the comedian settled in 2006. the women claim cosby defamed them when his agents denied he sexually abused them in the

'70s. a federal judge agreed to see if a massachusetts judge decides to throw out the case. nearly $124,000. that's the tab new jersey taxpayers are picking up for chris christie's international travels. he released his numbers for the trips to the uk and mexico and canada. other trip costs were funded by a group, choose new jersey. and then a teacher contract in the works for 17 catholic schools in the area. the teachers union is expected to vote on the deal in the next two weeks and the concern the contract expires at the end of august. a philadelphia mother is

calling for an end to bullying after this video captured a student assaulting her daughter. the attack happened on wednesday where the victim is a ninth grader. the principal says the girls got into an argument earlier in the day, and nbc 10 spoke to the victim's mother. >> no more anger. i just feel sad because of the situation and because, you know they don't know how to control their self and they don't know how many damages they can cause. >> the attacker is suspended from school. officials are expected to hear an expulsion hearing before the end of the year. police want to know if somebody is killing cats by giving them antifreeze. the dead cats do not appear to show any trauma so neighbors expect somebody is poisoning them. police are worried somebody is trying to trim the cat

population by taking matters into their own hands. >> you have moles, and they are not harming nobody or doing no damage. >> in light of the discovery of the dead cats the police are reminding people in the area poisoning animals, even sprays is considered abuse. coming up a motorcycle crash caught on camera from the rider's point of view. his bike hits speeds of 100 miles per hour before the man goes over the handlebars. plus accused of lying about her race and now she is facing some very tough questions. we will tell you who blew the whistle on her alleged background.

good morning. temperatures pushing into the 80s as early as 10:00 a.m. right now 78 degrees in philadelphia and 74 in millville, and 73 degrees in wildwood, and temperatures in atlantic city at 75. wind direction shifting a bit, so our humidity will not be as bad as yesterday, but still a warm start to the weekend with temperatures expected to push into the high 80s and low 90s. if we see 90 degrees at the philadelphia international airport, we officially have a heat wave on our hands. expect temperatures at 10:00 a.m. at 81 and we don't have a good chance of showers or storms for today, and that's definitely going to change as we head into next week but here is a closer look at our future weather that shows that our temperatures are going to push close to 90 degrees. we are going to stay cooler at the shore. expect temperatures mainly in the mid-80s, and then as we head

this man was wearing a go pro camera and going 106 miles per hour when he crashed into a curb. he didn't realize where he was riding would suddenly end. the man flipped over the handlebars, as you can see, and luckily he was wearing a helmet and landed in soft grass and that saved him from injury. why you should always drive defensively, and why you should not drive 106 miles per hour on lightcap road all while wearing ago pro camera. there is no better way to warn people about the dangers of reckless driving. and then a trooper under review after an encounter with a cyclist. >> pay attention. don't play with me, okay? >> sorry.

90 degrees at the philadelphia international airport, that means we have a heat wave on our hands. today not as hot as what we saw yesterday. 91 yesterday and 95 tying the record. warm sunday on tap for us dropping down into the mid-80s, and then storms back in the 7-day forecast, and not just for one day but not week. and the feel-like temperature at 80 degrees. the humidity not as bad as yesterday, and for allentown, 70 degrees, and cape may in the 70s. you take a closer look at the current temperatures for the poconos, 68 degrees, and 72 in reading, and 72 degrees in pottstown, and 71 in coatesville.

wilmington, 70s. 77 currently in mount holly. a mild start to the morning, and you are noticing the wind direction shifting and now we are seeing a cold front move through and we are going to see our wind direction shifting a bit. you can see off to the west it's school cooler in cincinnati at 68. temperatures in the mid-70s in the carolinas. dry conditions and hot once again. we are tracking changes as we head into tomorrow. tomorrow morning and most of the afternoon will stay dry, but look at what happens at 6:00 p.m. we will see the moderate to heavy downpours, and we are stretching down into delaware and so wet roads likely especially if you have an early monday morning commute, and then we will see a better chance of storms monday night head into tuesday, and really for the rest of the week. our temperatures will not be as

hot as what we saw yesterday. our average is 82 and we will see a high of 91 and as we push into sunday temperatures drop back down into the mid-80s. we are improving with our temperatures if it's just a little too hot for you. saturday and sunday down the shore, 84 degrees in new jersey and delaware beaches at 88 for your saturday. look at sunday. temperatures drop down a bit not only for the city but also for delaware beaches and down the shore. 74 degrees if you plan on heading to some of our shore locations, and so a bit cooler once we go into sunday. today, we will see temperatures close to 87 degrees in allentown, and right along the shore, cape may, 85 degrees and 88 in dover and around the philadelphia area we are expecting 90s, and 91 degrees for philadelphia today. our range will be between 88 and 92.
